Changes to State Sponsorship

newsThe Department of Immigration and Citizenship has advised the state processing offices for State Sponsored Migration that invitations will be issued on a pro-rata basis for certain occupations.

This comes amid claims that there are a backlog of EOIs in the SkillSelect system for certain occupations, due to the occupation ceiling in the previous migration year.  For example, ICT Business and System Analysts are already approaching their occupation ceiling for 2013-2014, even though only 3 invitation rounds have since passed.

The change has left many prospective migrants asking many questions to DIAC and migration agents about what this means for the state nominated program.  DIAC has indicated its intention to issue invitations for state sponsorship applicants for certain occupations through the existing twice-monthly invitation rounds.

The occupation groups currently affected are:-

  • ICT Business and Systems Analysts
  • Chemical and Materials Engineers
  • Electronics Engineers
  • Telecommunications Engineering Professionals
  • Other Engineering Professional
  • Software and Applications Programmers
